Using the Mobile Web on our Mobile Phones is now more popular than using a Computer !
A recent survey carried out by Mojiva along with IAB found that a staggering 76% of the UK are currently following the 2012 Olympics on their mobile devices.
Despite many of the events taking part during the day, it would seem that many will still be following the Olympics from work using their mobile phones. Indeed 67% have even downloaded, (or intend to download) a dedicated Olympic app, proving how important mobile devices have become in our lives when wanting to gain instant access to various information.
Mobile web and apps are fast becoming the most powerful way of passing information to the masses. Mc Donald’s have reported more than 1 million downloads of their apps in less than twelve months and even candidates in the American presidential campaigns are now acknowledging the power of mobile phones with both President Obama and Mitt Romney releasing mobile apps to attract more votes.
Mobile phones truly are changing the way in which we live our lives.
Further evidence of this lies in a survey carried out by Hipcricket that identified that:
46% of smartphone owners have viewed a mobile ad.
64% have completed at least 1 purchase due to mobile advertising.
45% of respondents had referred a product or service to a friend as a result of a mobile advert.
But alarmingly 74% replied that their favourite brands had NOT advertised to them on their mobile devices.
This identified a significant missed opportunity for companies and advertising agencies alike.
It is predicted that by 2013 there will be a staggering 1.7 billion mobile internet users.
Based on these facts it would seem that choosing whether to have mobile marketing is no longer an option but a must. With mobile web usage growing so rapidly, can any company really afford to be without it?
If any more proof was needed of the power of mobile web advertising, a consumer mobile movement carried out in April 2011 by Google/Ipsos identified that:
42% click on a mobile ad
35% then visit the advertiser’s site
32% search for more info
49% make a purchase
And 27% call the business
With such as staggering amount of people now accessing content via mobile devices, and with most of us now having our mobile phones with us (and switched on ) constantly…even when we are sleeping! Mobile marketing really can offer business owners a great way of grabbing the immediate attention of the masses!
But how do you know whether your website is mobile ready?
The best way for business owners to test whether their website is suitable for mobile web is by opening their website on a mobile browser. The website should be easy to navigate and have a good connection speed. If not a simple mobile plug in can be installed to overcome any issues if using word press.
You should also ensure that your content does not appear shrunk down or hidden by any flashing banners and that you have good headlines in place to capture the immediate attention of anyone browsing on your website. Having less images can also help your website to stand out better on mobile web.
Overall, In view of the rapid expansion of the mobile phone industry, mobile marketing is no longer a marketing trend but an imperative form of marketing for businesses seriously wanting to increase revenue and to reduce marketing costs. It offers a powerful means of capturing the immediate attention and response from a huge audience …with the average text being read within 6 minutes of being received!
