Generally online direct selling falls into two categories namely:

MLM
An MLM (or multi level marketing) company pays commission not only for personal sales but also for sales made by people that you have enrolled on  to your team, known as your down line. Therefore, within this type of business investing time and effort into mentoring your down line will allow you to earn a substantial income working from home.

Single Level
Single level marketing only compensates representatives for their personal sales only.  It does not allow for the recruitment of any down line. Overall, direct selling can offer a way to create a lucrative income as compared to a franchise business, the initial investment is low and the profits are high.
