Just like many other people, I have fallen prey to this ISSUE. I say issue because working from home can become just that … all work and no play. Before you know it you can find yourself clocked in working 18 hours a day. Although you may find your business interesting and exciting it can make you leave behind many other important factors in your life.

I have seen many people do this time and time again, so be sure to “clock out” when you’re scheduled to do so. STICK TO IT! If you are scheduled to quit working at 9pm on weekdays or spend exclusive time with your family on Saturdays – DO IT!

If you are supposed to work from 8pm -11pm and then Go To Bed at 11pm…. DO IT! Trust me this is so important. A business without time management is a business that will overpower your life and make it ugly!

6. Protect Your self With A Legal Entity

I’m no expert on this subject but be sure to seek your own legal council on this matter to protect your personal assets from your business ones.

To some extent this step may depend on how seriously you view your business and how well you expect it to become. But make sure your new enterprise is fully legally protected at all times. You can obtain some great advice on these topics from any legal company that specializes in this field. Ensure you do your own due diligence on the topic.

7. Prepare Your Marketing Plan

Anyone who wants to learn how to start an online business must realize that it involves Marketing.

Now that you have your target market identified in your business plan, it’s time to create your plan of attack. Create a quick list of your strengths and weaknesses with regards to your marketing and promotional skills.

In other words are you a good writer or do you have copy writing experience for advertising, etc.?
Are you artistic, or good at graphic design such as WordPress or Photoshop?

Create 2 columns – 1 for what you are good at, 2 what you aren’t so good at. This will enable you to identify what you may be able to do yourself and what you’ll need to outsource to other people to increase your marketing strategies.

The most common marketing methods are:

  • Articles, Press Releases, Forums, Blogging, PPC, Classified Ads, Subscriptions, Social Networking, Web 2.0 Publishing, Twitter, Facebook, Video, Podcasting

All of the above are examples are FREE methods of marketing although as time and profits permit you can start to outsource them.. I would highly recommend that you go through the list above and pick a couple that you feel comfortable doing. If you have no experience at all that then you need to educated yourself on how to market using the chosen topic or start outsourcing it if you can afford to do so.

8. Outsourcing……. But I can’t afford it!

Remember that BUSINESS PLAN and budget that I suggested you create a short time ago? Remember the list of strengths and weaknesses that I suggested you create? What do you think those were for? Well, now you know and realize how important they are.

You have set yourself an expenditure budget and you know what you can and can’t do. So now you have spend some of that money to enable others to help you get going. No good whining about it – just follow your planned out strategy and get it done. No if’s no but’s !

By now you should realise how important it is having a business plan and the benefits it has for your business. Avoid altering your ‘plan’ until you have tested it and have enough data available to analyze your findings.

Most online internet entrepreneurs have basic skills that more or less relate to being able to putting together blogs and videos to help them promote their business as well as using Twitter and Facebook.

Such a combination of basic skills can create an extremely powerful and profitable sales funnel. If you need to brush up on the technical aspects of either, there are a multitude of courses and free training available on the web.

9. Staying Focused

  • Will organizing your desk move your business forward? NO
  • Will checking email every hour move your business forward? NO 
  • Will losing $50 on your first PPC campaign move your business forward? YES
  • Will writing a 400 word article and submitting it to article directories move your business forward? YES

The point I am trying to make here is to simply stay on track and stick to your plan – that’s what it’s for. Don’t deviate from it. You will more time than it is worth !

Don’t waste a weekend cleaning or setting up your office if you don’t need to. Remember, setting the foundations for your business is only a small part of the equation. You’ve got work to do, so get this part nailed down as quickly as possible then get to the business at hand … marketing, building your network and growing your business … i.e. Bring Home Some Pennies !

10. Your Visions And Dreams

It’s one of those things I see people spend a lot of time doing that in the end they end up wasting to much time doing it so I usually ask them to do it last of all. Some people say it should be done first and foremost.
It’s a bit like deciding what career path you want to take when you leave school. You decide and work at it until you get the qualifications needed. The same applies here. .
List all of the details and costs associated to create your VISION and DREAM LIFESTYLE. …
Make a list of everything you want to own or do within twelve months.
Be very specific …i.e

Don’t let your mind start to tell you “Oh I could Never Have That”. No matter what it is or how extreme write it down.

HERES AN EXAMPLE:  ( it’s not unreal ! )  Lets’ say you strive for ….

Family Home by a lake – $110,000 per year

What a week it’s been. The days just seem to be flying by. I have just finished helping one of my daughters apply to appear on a T.V show to become a budding entrepreneur. Good on her ! I’m more nervous about her getting through than she is !

Over the past 10 years, the growth of the Internet has resulted in many ordinary people creating online Internet success by starting an Internet business.

The Internet has changed the way we live our lives enabling individuals to start an Internet based business and compete with organizations from all over the world. So what puts people off starting an Internet business? Is it because it’s too easy or to hard to start up?  Well, let’s see if I can help answer some of the most common things that spring to mind.

The starting point for any new venture is to create a business plan. There are lots of financing options available to aspiring entrepreneurs. As we know the current economic climate has made the process a little more difficult but if your idea and business plan is good then obtaining funding should not be a major issue.  Banks, overdrafts and loans are still the main source of obtaining funding.

There is also something known as “business angels” who are wealthy individuals that invest in growing companies wanting to raise between £10,000 and £250,00. One of my ‘pet hates’ is the amount of time and ‘long winded’ process buying online on some web sites can take. This puts me, as a customer right off the site straight away, so make sure that your internet website it fast and easy for customers to use and order from, as a site with a difficult sales process is likely to deter customers.

Customers love to be treated as individuals rather than a number. So calling them to make sure they are happy with the service you offer can go a long way towards promoting your internet business.

As much as you may feel like, don’t give up your day job until such time that your new internet business is able to afford to replace your salary and living costs.

It does take time for any internet business venture to grow and until it does the income and sales may be slow.
